Southern Wedding

Sitting in photography class my senior year of high school had me feeling more in my element than I ever felt before.  Who would have known that the fateful day of choosing photography as an elective back in 2008 would lead me to where I am today.

I’m Sam, the lead photographer and co-owner of Northern Red Photography.  My husband (the other half of Northern Red and the brains behind the business aspects of the company) and I established Northern Red Photography, LLC in 2015.  My pursuit for my love of photography had always been more of a hobby, a hobby that had been thoroughly refined during my college years where I minored in photography at the University of Rhode Island, learning the basics and perfecting the craft.  While my husband was serving in the US Army and were living in Fort Campbell Kentucky, a whopping 1075 miles away from our entire family, we welcomed our first child into the world.  It was this moment that we realized just how important capturing these moments of our first born’s life were not only for our memories but to share with our family back home.  I knew I was meant to capture these moments not only for my family but I wanted to be able to capture these moments for other families as well.

I was drawn to event planning because I enjoy using my imagination to create and design beautiful events. However, wedding planning really became my passion because I am a hopeless romantic. Sofia and David’s wedding has been one of my absolute favorites because their love story made me feel all of the feelings. When I learned of this couples “meet cute” in addition to their unlikely long-distance love story, I was beyond excited to help them plan the beginning of their happily ever after.

Hi there! My name is Alana Donovan, and I have been a photographer for quite some time (before digital cameras)!  I would like to say I chose the lifestyle of a photographer, but I truly believe it chose me. Being a mom was and always has been a huge part of who I am: a nurturer, a lover, a caregiver. Nonetheless picking up a camera was one of the most magical things I have ever experienced! As a young girl, I vividly remember hearing the shutter of my mother’s camera and the way my heart connected with it. It was so vivid, that I know without a doubt God put this desire in my heart as young as 12 years old. I loved everything about it and the way it allowed me to express my perspective of the world and people around me. It was MY view of the world and beauty that lies hidden within. I guess you can say it was love at first clickI bought my first “big girl” camera when my daughter Lauren was born, 25 years ago. I won’t say that I knew photography would be a business for me, but it turned
