Jamie and Oscar's wedding day definitely goes down in my books as one of my favorite wedding days! They are such a sweet, fun and relaxed couple -- I just liked being around them. They are both from a small town on the border of Idaho and Oregon and they chose to get married in a local park up there. I loved that they chose to get married close to home to make sure that all of their family would be able to attend!

The park they chose was beautiful, and when the sun set it had the most amazing, warm light that spread over their entire reception. Everything from their ceremony, to dinner, to the dance party later that night was just so much fun! The groom's mother and family prepared the most delicious homemade Mexican taco buffet for dinner, and they served homemade horchata and limeade to go along with it. (this may be one of my favorite meals of all time and probably added a great deal to my love for this wedding!) They also had a few Pinata's tied up in trees for guests and little kids

 When you see a moment that can’t be explained in a single word, and one that gives you a deeper sense of feeling that touches your soul, you hold your breath and press the shutter.

Photography is the best way I know of expressing myself through the people who share their special moments with me.  This journey first started with the birth of my first child and carried on as my family grew.  Capturing moments of their life one shot at a time and years later, to watch their smiles light up when they see old photos of themselves have always been my inspiration.

My goal is simple.  To make my clients comfortable.  My approach is even simpler. To have my clients be themselves and to put them in a setting where they can have their moment.  It then becomes natural with pure emotions.

As a Sailor, it’s been engrained in me to never forget where I came from and so I wanted to honor this with something that I am passionate about.

I have always adored photography ever since I was little and my grandpa had his Canon camera draped over his shoulder. My papaw would carry that thing around with him wherever we went. I would ride along with him when he went to get his film developed and anxiously wait to see the photos that “we” captured. However, it wasn’t until just a few years ago when I purchased my first “professional” camera of my own that I truly came to respect & love the art so much more!

I started out shooting portraits – but it wasn’t until I got into wedding photography that I felt like I had really found my niche, my own little safe haven in such a broad and diverse industry. When I’m behind my lens, I feel alive! I can create anything I want to, really…and that’s just pretty darn neat if I say so myself. I have no constraints, just the opportunity to create something beautiful and timeless. For my clients to trust me to tell their love story in the most perfect way is so humbling. I’m all about the moments. I think and feel that there is so much beauty...so much romance, and raw emotion that happens on a wedding day organically, that I don’t need to pose, orchestrate, or stage something throughout the day. So my approach to wedding photography is to go after the authentic moments, and the unique story of each client.   My artistic strength on the wedding day is in the capture. Some of my work may look like I posed or staged an image, but the bride just happened to be holding her bouquet, or had a subtle look on her face which emanated from behind her veil.

Why the big hoopla about “authentic,” or “non-posed” moments? It’s probably rooted in two core facts about me. For one, I’m really not into posing. There are many people who do an incredible job of it, but it’s just not my thing. Although, if a client was a model and just loved being, and posing, in front of the camera and that’s who they were at heart, then I supposed I would just capture them posing < insert

To be honest, I never expected to make a career out of photography. But now that I have, it’s hard to imagine my life any other way.

I never went to school for photography. I never learned to light meter subjects with acuity and I never spent hours on end in caustic dark room environs. My teacher was my father, and the curriculum was his 40-year love affair with the camera. While it may not have been an exacting approach on how to be a proper photographer, He taught me how to “see” through a lens. He taught me about composition, framing, why a shot is good, why a shot is bad, and how to make it better.

I’m Laura Ford, a documentary style photographer who specializes in shooting weddings. I'm based in Los Angeles and am lucky enough to travel regularly to shoot weddings across the country.

I’ve been interested in and experimenting with photography for as long as I can remember. As a naturally shy child I was especially observant of others, and though I’ve lost my shyness over the years, that observant quality remains. I find it especially useful in capturing the intimate, unscripted moments that often go overlooked during a busy fun-filled wedding day.

I really, really enjoy shooting weddings. Following the couple through their day, from the quiet times preparing for the ceremony to the last song on the dance floor.
