The Maid of Honor or Bridesmaids will usually host the Bridal Shower. Although, it’s not uncommon for a Sister, Aunt, or even a close friend to host.
As the host you can decide what kind of party to throw, the theme is up to you. Whether you choose to host something casual such as a beach theme or a more formal sit down tea party, be sure it is something that represents the bride. If you are not sure, you can always ask the bride what kind of a shower she would like too.
Be sure to coordinate with the Bride on a date that is suitable for her, after all the shower is about her! Typically a Bridal Shower should be held about two weeks to two months before the wedding.
Once you have set a date, plan on mailing out the invitations 4 to 6 weeks prior to the shower.
As the host, choose a set number of guests you’re comfortable inviting. Also, talk with the bride about who should would like included. Typically you would only invite those who are also invited to the wedding. If it is a surprise Bridal Shower a good idea would be to go to the bride’s mom for help with the guest list.
The Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids or whomever is hosting the party is in charge of the cost of the shower. The shower is in honor of the bride, therefore it is proper etiquette for the host to pay for the guests and bride, such as if the bridal shower were to be held at a restaurant.
There are many ways to keep a guests entertained at a Bridal Shower. As host, be sure to mingle around and introduce people or playing some music for background noise. Also, plan some time during the shower for some interactive games. A few ideas of some Bridal Shower games and activities are:

If you choose to throw a bridal shower at someones home, it's best to prepare early to avoid the last minute rushing before the guest arrive. It may be a good idea to get help from the bridesmaids or others. Some things to keep in mind when prepping for the day:
- Set up gift opening area, scissors, trash bag, notepad, pen
- Prepare food
- Set up decorations, flowers, etc.
- Create a sitting area
- Have activities ready
Be sure to inform your guests that it is a bridal shower and who the lucky girl is. Include the date, time, and location of the party along with the address. Lastly, as the host add your name and when to RSVP by. Don’t forget to add where the bride is registered so she can be showered with gifts. Your invitations should reflect what kind of theme you are going for as well as to inform the guests.
Be creative with the wording, perhaps adding a fun line about the bride or the couple, or a playful rhyme will make for a charming bridal shower invitations. Come up with something that matches the bride’s personality and lifestyle.
