Moonrise Kingdom Inspired Wedding Shoot

Wes Anderson has created several outstanding films, such as The Royal Tenenbaums and Moonrise Kingdom. His saturated color palettes, quirky props and methodical cinematography are consistent aesthetics in his films.

Laura of Laura Izumikawa Photography + Caroline of Oh, Lovestruck Event Design and Styling were inspired by the characters and details from Moonrise Kingdom. They decided to combine the inspiration from this movie with simplicity of Kinfolk Magazine to style a summer engagement and elopement.

Landmark Wedding Day

Kate and Chris chose a Beautiful Colonial sandstone building to take their vows as man and wife, The perfect setting for this memorable day. The building, surrounded by bushland, was built in 1873 for use by the military, but is now a beautiful tea room/restaurant overlooking Sydney Harbour.

With a venue this eye catching the couple chose to keep their colors really simple with white, green, the palest pink flowers, and black bridesmaid dresses. To make the ceremony that more special, Kate and Chris chose to have a ring warming in which their wedding bands were passed around to all their guests to be 'warmed' with their well wishes for our future together.

Other special touches for the day came from the brides own hands as she felt she really “put a piece of us” into the DIY decorations. They arranged their own flowers, bouquets, centerpieces, and even made marshmallows for their wedding favors. An even more meaningful touch was placing a framed photo from each of their parents wedding days on our guestbook table; this was very dear to them.

Kate describes the highlight of her day as watching her now husband have a cry during the vows, and being surrounded by all our friends and family as I married my high school sweetheart and best friend.” The evening reception that followed was filled with incredible speeches which the bride and groom could really feel the love in the room between everyone there.

Ways to word your Save the Date

pinit
SavetheDate

Save the dates are a fun and exciting way to communicate to your loved ones to plan ahead and mark this special day on their calendar! There are many ways to send your Save the Date, as discussed in our previous blog post ‘Save the Date by Postcard, Magnet or Email’, but you may now be wondering questions such as ‘What information should I include on my save the date?” or “Do I need to make my Save the Date a formal announcement?” As always, we are here to help, read on for some advice on the in’s and outs of Save the Date wording.

Writing your Save the Dates is simple! The most important details to write on your save the date are:

- Your names: preferably first and last would be helpful for your guests

- The wedding date: It is perfectly acceptable to use informal writing than how you would write your wedding invitations. For example: rather than write the full date out as “the twenty-fourth of June, two thousand and fourteen” you may choose to simply put “06.24.14” or “June 24, 2014”.

- The wedding location: city and state of where you will be married

- Formal Invitation to Follow: This can be placed at the bottom of the card so your guests know that there is more on it’s way. Also, do remember announcements should only be sent to those who you will be inviting to your wedding as well.

For those who want to add more, feel free to get creative by adding some personal touches to the design. As this is fun news to share with everyone, you can choose to include the link to your wedding website to keep guests in the loop on event information or even include a quote that is meaningful to the both of you.

Rustic Winery Wedding

Today’s Real Wedding we feature the wedding of Sam and Nicole, who were married at Train Trak Winery in Yarra Glen, Victoria (Australia), with a reception to follow right next door at a rustic Italian restaurant fitting their vision for a fun celebration with loved ones.

The highlight of Nicole's day (apart from marrying her best friend!) was seeing how everything they carefully planned for months and months played out. It was lovely to see it all materialized and with the help of their venue coordinator and some wonderful family and friends, the day ran smoothly.

The ceremony was followed by a reception at Zonzo, a small rustic Italian restaurant with their emphasis on family and sharing. This was perfect for us because it reflected what we both wanted from our wedding: a fuss-free, fun day where celebrating with our loved ones was the focus. We both have a love for all things vintage - fashion, decor and cars - so we centered our theme around this, incorporating a lot of handmade items (we made our ceremony paper decorations, ceremony programs, bonbonierre (personalized boxes with a homemade cupcake inside each), and table centerpieces with the help of our talented, flower-savvy friend Kim!

We had a lot of help from friends, and this helped make the day unique to us. Our friend Emily made our wedding cake, our friend and Sam's groomsmen Travis sang and played guitar during our ceremony, and as mentioned above, our friend Kim helped us by creating all of our beautiful floral arrangements, from the bouquets and buttonholes to the table displays. Another unique and fun aspect of our day was our dessert table - we invited our guests to bake a cake for our dessert table, guests voted for their favorite by placing a button in a corresponding jar and the winner was awarded a prize! It was great way to involve everyone and the quality of the desserts made was fantastic!

Is there anything you would have liked to do differently and what advice can you offer to couples in the planning stages of their wedding?

I think if we could do things differently, we probably would have budgeted better. You can never predict life and while we budgeted for the wedding, we hadn't budgeted for all of the unexpected events (for example, Sam's car, which was also our wedding car, needing repairs in the month before the day!).If I could give any couples advice for planning their wedding, I would just say, have fun with it. Don't sweat the small stuff, do something small each week or fortnight, enlist family and friends - when people ask for help, take them up on it! It'll definitely take the stress off you both and give you less to fret about leading up to the big day so that you can just enjoy it!

An Intimate Destination Wedding

Aloha! Today's Real Wedding takes place in Waikiki, Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Our bride and groom, Erclynn and Daniel chose to celebrate their special day with an intimate destination wedding among their family.

The couple was married at St. Augustine By The Sea Church in the city of Waikiki and followed by a reception held at The Coconut Club. Daniel tells us, “We wanted a small close family wedding and it turned out better than expected.” Doing all the planning from their home in Michigan and never traveling to Hawaii gave them a bit of a challenge, but in the end the coordination all fell into place. They felt that every one of their vendors went over and beyond what was asked of them to make this day memorable.

Daniel shares his advice to those couples planning their wedding "...make sure you plan time for yourselves. You may spend so much time trying to make sure everyone of your guests is happy but make sure YOU are having an awesome time as well."

Showering the Parents-to-Be with love

pinit
chalkboardbabyshowerinvitation

Todays modern age, Baby Showers are not just a woman only social event anymore. Liven up the excitement of welcoming the new addition with a co-ed baby shower to celebrate the parents to be! Not only is this a great way to welcome the new addition but will help prep the parent(s) to be!

We are here to help walk you though the ins and outs of hosting and attending a baby shower. From baby stationery suggestions to tips on hosting a shower, we’ve got you covered. Not only will the event be a joyous occasion for the honoree, but it will be fun and worry free for the host(s) as well!

Host Shower Planning and Guest list

It used to be the etiquette that parents-to-be should not host their own baby shower. Family, close friends or even co-workers would throw a baby shower for their loved ones. Nowadays some parents to be choose to throw their own baby shower, or they do this together with their family and close friends.

Most showers are hosted prior to the baby’s due date, about 4-6 weeks before.

It’s best to check in with the parents to be to see what their schedule permits for a date and if there are any special guests who need to be in attendance such as parents, grandparents siblings etc. As host of the shower, you can limit the guest to close family and friends depending on the location and how many people it may accommodate. Once you have a date set, you can start working on the invitations.

What to include on a baby shower invitation

Baby shower invites should be sent out at least three weeks in advance using the guest list you’ve worked on with the parents to be. Baby shower invitation wording can be written from a cute rhyme to a simple invitation for a baby shower. Regardless of the form, be sure to include the following information for your guests:

Date &Time – Sunday, the twenty-eighth of July or July 28th

Location – address and or map/directions

The expecting mother or couple's name

Name of host(s)/hostess(es) & RSVP information

Registry information

Other tips for hosting a Baby Shower

Plan a Theme party: This will be helpful and fun for you and your guests to center the party around a particular color, pattern or décor. Use bright colors for the décor either it be with the use of flowers or a desert station as a focal point, the thoughtfulness will be shown.

Plan your Menu: As host make sure to feed your guests, especially the guest of honor. Select foods that are easy to eat such as salads, sandwiches’, vegetable dips etc. or even a favorite dish of the celebrant. Having a set menu that is easy to prepare will help you to avoid last minute stressors.

Plan something interactive: Keep your guests occupied with shower games, crafts for the parents to be, advice cards. Better yet, provide a prize for the winner of each game!
