Today’s Real Wedding features the union between Lauren Coalson and Chris Hardy in Atlanta, GA. We loved this wedding for all of the traditions & special touches the couple incorporated to truly make this day a part of them.
What was your highlight of the day?
The most special moment of our wedding day for both of us was the ceremony. Everyone always tells you how quickly the day will go by, so I wanted to be sure to really soak in and be completely present at the ceremony.
We incorporated the Celtic tradition of tying the knot into our vows, which was very meaningful and special. A stole was fastened around our embraced hands and as the sweet words were being read. I will remember that part vividly for the rest of my life.
What kinds of special touches did you choose to have on your special day?
Chris & I always joke that someday we will move out of the city & own a farm, so for the escort cards we had all different gold-painted farm animal figurines with the guests names tied around their necks written on kraft paper with peach yarn. We knew they were a big hit because they were all stolen by our guests.
In terms of the design of the room, the swinging benches filled with flowers hanging over the tables mixed with the ombre peach colored ribbon and café lights that went from the outer tables to the center of the dance floor, gave the room such a special and magical feel. I felt like I was underneath a carousel all evening. And candles covered every space possible. It was so lovely.
In the months leading up to the big day, I collected a variety of vintage china, so each guests at the estate table would have a different plate. They gave the table such a great, authentic Southern look. We had fried chicken, mac n’ cheese-the works. All served family style. It felt like you were having Sunday dinner with your family. I wish I had enough time to find plates for every guest!
I purchased a vintage suitcase & vintage postcards from Mexico to use as our guestbook. We asked guest to write down marriage advice to read on our honeymoon, which was so fun to read and something we will always treasure.
Do you have any advice to couples that are planning their upcoming wedding?
It is a fun process, but with full time jobs, it was a lot to manage, so we wanted to give ourselves a year to plan. If you find yourself becoming overwhelmed, adopt “no wedding Wednesdays” or weekends where wedding planning is not allowed. Everyone needs a break every once in a while. We had our vision but no idea how to execute it, so if you have room in your budget, hire an event/floral designer and day of coordinator! That was our saving grace!
Thinking back, is there anything you would have liked to do differently?
It goes without saying that no wedding day goes off without a hitch. I stumbled down the staircase during our entrance and put out some of the candles with my dress-thankfully, it wasn’t a full on tumble. Moments like that turn out to be hilarious memories that you will always look back on and laugh about. That being said, I wouldn’t change a thing!
Lauren and Chris choose our Le Jardinier Invitation & Le Jardinier Response card for their wedding stationery.
