Intimate real wedding celebration with family and friends

Today’s real wedding we join Jessica and Justin as they share their special day with us. We loved how fun and intimate the day was for them and their guests. Jessica’s highlight of the day for her was her walk down the aisle towards her now husband. She tells us “I did not think I would get so emotional, but I broke down crying. It was such an overwhelming feeling to be celebrated and loved by him and all my friends and family.”

If they were to do anything differently, Jessica tells us “I would have liked to have more time with my wedding party and photographer.” having more time for photos between the ceremony or the reception, or perhaps done a first look.

Their advice for future brides and grooms “If you don't get a planner, hire a coordinator! It was the best thing I ever did. She was worth every penny.”

The best part of the day was after we were married and had done some photos and had 20 minutes to ourselves before we were thrust back at out our adoring fans. Taking that time alone to sit and be happy together without any stress was really lovely moment.

What would I do differently? I would have kept it a little smaller and more intimate.

Advice for other couples? Don't sweat the small stuff. Seriously. No one is going to remember all of your decorations, ( I spent months making those pompoms) and while many of my girlfriends told me that everything was beautiful and the food was great... the comment I get the most is that EVERYONE had so much fun. I mean, we had a soul train dance off for crying out loud! .

Real Weddings with Adam & Sara

Adam & Sara were joined together as husband and wife among family and friends, just as they had hoped for on their wedding day. The bride tells us, “For Adam and me, our wedding day was most importantly a celebration of us. When we talked about how we wanted our day to feel, we wanted to make it a really fun party. We wanted our family and friends to have a great time and leave feeling like our day was uniquely ‘Sara and Adam’“. Read more from the bride herself in today’s Real Wedding as she gives us her recap of their special day.

“We were married on June 1st at Planterra Conservatory in Michigan. Our ceremony was absolutely perfect. It was personal and quirky and full of love. We worked with our officiant to design our own ceremony. We asked our friends to choose their own readings, we included stories from family and friends, and we wrote our own vows. One of my absolute favorite moments of the day came after Adam’s vows when he wowed the crowd and everyone started applauding! It was such a fun, beautiful moment."

The beautiful venue was one of the many things we absolutely loved about our wedding. The greenhouse provided a gorgeous backdrop and it was easy for us to decorate by adding just a few of our own personal touches. Adam is a teacher and poker player, so our program and table numbers were chalkboards and we added vintage poker chips to the boutonnieres. I collect milk glass and floral hankies, so we used those for the centerpieces and ceremony space. Those little things were significant to us and made the space feel so much more special.

It was so nice to hear after the wedding that people had a good time, that they thought it was cool we did what we wanted, and that we seemed so relaxed and happy. I think a lot of people get too caught up in planning and forget the reason for the celebration.

On our wedding day, we were calm and able to focus on what was most important, each other! We had help from our wedding planner, Erika of EcoPosh Events, and we had a unique, fun, stress free day that was exactly what we wanted from start to finish. It wasn’t perfect, but it was perfect for us!

How to get your guests to RSVP

How to get your guests to RSVP

Organization. Thoroughness. Patience. These are three words to keep in mind when it comes to managing the RSVPs for your big day. As not everyone is an event planner or has a Type A personality, we’ve put together some helpful hints for the successful collecting of your RSVPS.

Step 1: Organization

First things first…create a spreadsheet of your guest list! This will be your main point of reference for keeping tabs on who’s responded, who has not responded (yes, you will have to follow-up) or has responded but did not leave a name or a name you can’t read (and yes, this will happen.)

Your spreadsheet should contain the following information: Guest’s First & Last name, their mailing address (physical or electronic), Menu choice (if applicable), Number of invited guests, Number Attending, and their table number. As the RSVPs trickle in you will be able to keep tabs on each guest’s response in a neat orderly fashion. As an added bonus this will also be helpful at the end of the wedding when you need to keep track of your Thank You Cards as well!

For those couples who opt for an online RSVP, you can create a separate email account for the replies to be directed to or most wedding website will have an option for receiving RSVP’s as well. To direct your guests to an online RSVP, you may provide your guests with the website link or email on the bottom of your invitation or include a separate response card.

Step 2: Thoroughness

When preparing your RSVPs for your guests there are a few tricks that you may want to take into consideration.

Numbering your Response cards. This helpful tip will be a savior in the end, trust us! Write down a tiny number on the back of the RSVP cards and match the number to the recipient in your wedding guest list spreadsheet. Using this method will help you to track the responses that come in as you may have guests who forget to write their names or may have illegible writing; this will save you from major headaches! We suggest using a yellow paint pen or Invisible ink pen on the card so that guests will not see the number.

Provide a your guest with a ready addressed and stamped envelope (be sure to check in with the post office for proper postage) for their response cards so that you encourage your guests to respond and make it easier to drop it in the mail!

Step 3: Patience

For those guests who have not responded you may need to have someone follow up with them via phone to make sure they will or will not be attending.

Be sure to give enough time for your guests to respond by as well as enough time for you to reach out to those who have not yet responded. We suggest an RSVP date that is at least a month out from the wedding date so that you have some wiggle room to contact guests who have not responded.

Engagement Parties and Bridal Showers

Engagement Party Invitation Designs

He asked and you said…YES!! The word will get around quickly, especially with the way our social network is these days; Don’t let that stop you from shouting out the news by making a formal announcement at an engagement party.

With the number of loved ones who are excited to celebrate with you, there is no limit to how many engagement parties you can have, however, as a rule of thumb the kick off should start with the the tradition of the brides parents being the first to celebrate the announcement.

How formal or informal can be left up to you, it can be anything from a casual backyard bbq to an evening cocktail party. Timing for the party should happen fairly soon after the engagement and remember that the guest invited to the shower should also be invited to the wedding as well. Usually this party can be more intimate with a group of both the bride and grooms family and their closest friends.

At the engagement party be sure there is have enough time to mingle with your guests, as they are there to wish you well and celebrate. The toasts of the night will start with the host of the evening, followed by the groom and you'll also have a chance to toast and thank the nights hosts.

Bridal Shower Invitation Designs

Mimosas + Brunch + Laughter with great company is a fun and simple way to shower the bride to be! Planning a bridal shower can be as traditional or casual as you want it to be.

Pick a theme for the day and get creative! Plan your shower around a fun activity such as a cooking lesson or make it a mad hatter tea party or even having just a simple luncheon with the brides favorite colors!

Then set the date – typically showers are held at least one to three months prior to the wedding date. Be sure not to place it too close to the wedding as to avoid an overwhelmed bride and host! Once the date is set, plan to send out the invitations at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance.

Prepping for the day– Make sure you have enough time for your guests to mingle with the bride to be as well as enjoy the food and drinks! Also, don’t forget about any shower activities you might have planned as well as the gift opening. Most of all don’t forget to enjoy the day with the bride!

For fun and festive invitations be sure to check out our new Bridal Shower Invitations.

What was your highlight of the day?

Honestly, the whole day was both my husband's and my highlight. There were so many special moments that it is impossible to pick just one.

pinit

Do you have any advice to couples that are planning their upcoming wedding?

Yes, start early with your planning and don't be afraid to delegate jobs to close friends and family (and who you trust to get stuff done). Also, have fun with the planning process - work with vendors who are fun, creative and easy to work with (which I was lucky to have!).

Lastly, stay true to yourself and don't waste time and money on details that are not "you." Instead, focus on ways to creatively express who you both are and your love for each other on your wedding day. So be creative and be yourself.
